Cribbage Box - 1860s

$116.00

This superb cribbage box, capable of holding a single deck, is crafted from rosewood with maple, mahogany, and boxwood stringing. It features an original brass hook and pin closure and boasts pristine 'flower and cross' lining paper in gold, red, and green.

The original trade label reads, "Sold by Partridge & Cooper, 192 Fleet Street," and it includes four bone pegs in red and white.

The bone pegs which are houses behind a sliding wood panel were unlikely to have come with the set as they are all slightly different, but certainly fit within the same time period.

The box has faint scratches to playing surface, a cribbage box of this age would be unusual without some but otherwise the box is in very good condition. Grade 1 under the Hoyles Vintage Grading System (see here).
