The very rare and wonderful Sooty's Magic card game made by Ariel Productions in the United Kingdom for 2 - 4 Players.
Harry Corbett bought a little glove puppet in 1946 in Blackpool for 7/6d. He called him “Teddy” and used him in his stage act. The little bear’s first TV appearance was in 1952 on a show called “Talent Night”. Later on Harry though that the little bear wasn’t quite distinctive enough so he rubbed soot on his ears and paws. In this way an institution was born; the famous Sooty.
Sweep, Sooty’s less than smart friend, didn’t come into the act until 1957, so any of the games which have Sweep in them must be later than that.
There are 54 cards in the pack plus the rules card. There are 2 suits with 18 cards of Sooty or Sweep each with cards numbered 1-5 and two Jokers. There are also 2 suits with 8 cards in each called Oofle Dust and Magic Wand. The object of the game is to lay down 2 sets (4 cards in each set) of the numbered cards which add up to 12. Each set must be cards of the same suit.
The box is in good condition and has only one flap missing. This red copy is also harder to find than the yellow fronted copy we have here. Grade 2 under the Hoyles Vintage Grading System.
