Codenames (2025 Edition)

The Hit Party Game of Word Association and Spycraft (Refreshed Edition)

Step into the world of spies and clever clues with Codenames 2025, the refreshed edition of the classic word‑association party game. As before, two rival spymasters know the secret identities of 25 agents while their teammates know them only by their codenames. Through clever one‑word clues and strategic guesses, teams race to contact all of their agents while avoiding innocent bystanders, enemy agents, and the dreaded assassin.

 What’s New in this edition

• Revised word list: The 400 codenames have been re‑curated using data from the game’s online version, to produce a “tighter, more satisfying” set of words for gameplay.
• Refreshed art and visuals: The box art, word cards, and agent/bystander illustrations have all been updated to give the game a fresh, modern look and more personality.
• Improved packaging & insert: The new edition uses a more organised, eco‑friendly insert including a card stand made from recycled “RE‑Wood®” material.
• Streamlined rulebook: The rulebook has been shortened and simplified, making it easier and faster to learn and teach, especially for new players.
• Updated components styling: While gameplay mechanics remain the same, each agent tile (and bystander/agent illustrations) has been redesigned to give the game more visual flair.

Importantly: the core mechanics of two‑team competition, spymasters giving one‑word clues plus a number, 5×5 grid of 25 word‑cards, and the risk of revealing the assassin remain unchanged.

 Why You’ll Love This Edition

• Fresher, more vibrant presentation - the new art and updated packaging make Codenames 2025 feel more modern and polished.
• Better word experience - the carefully updated word list helps avoid over‑used or stale codenames and can generate more creative, varied clues.
