A very large and rare wooden jigsaw puzzle from the GWR Chad Valley Series, dating from 1935-39. The puzzle features a painting of a young girl and boy who are captivated by a real Great Western service train passing by, while they play with their model train set. The artwork was originally created by Andreas Duncan Carse, an artist whose larger works were displayed on the Cunard liner "Queen Mary" in 1933.

Chad Valley was one of the top three British manufacturers, alongside J. Salmon and Victory, that produced the majority of wooden jigsaws available during the 1920s to 1950s.
