Reynard the Fox chess pieces

This Reynard the Fox set is based on the famous fable. The underlying framework of the popular medieval literary form is a series of stories linked by common characters: here, in Reynard the Fox, the character of Reynard provides the connective thread. (The Reynard fable satirises the royal court, the judicial system, and many other aspects of medieval life.)

Key figures include the lion, lioness, horse, monkey, bear and rabbit - and Reynard himself of course.

Due to being a hand painted artisan product, every set will be unique and your set will vary slightly in colour from the pictures on our website.

These playing pieces look beautiful on our traditional wood boards. A board is not included. The hand-painted set is pictured on a 21" Osberton board (sold separately) and the antique finish set on a 24" Mansfield board (sold separately upon request).
