Belisha card game - 1938

$48.00

Published by Castell Brothers as part of their Pepys Games range, “Belisha” is a pre-war card game based on Rummy from 1938 designed to educate young people about road safety. The cards feature unique scenes from a long journey between London and Oban, with a theme centred around UK traffic signs.

In Belisha, players use gameplay mechanics similar to Rummy but with cards grouped by numbers, colours, and types of traffic signs instead of traditional suits and numbers.

Players are dealt a hand of cards and, on their turn, can draw from the deck or the discard pile. They aim to discard their cards by forming sets or sequences, adding to those laid down by opponents, and must end their turn by discarding one card. A round ends when a player has no cards left to play or discard. Players then score based on the remaining cards in their hands.

The game concludes when a player reaches a predetermined score (usually 250 or more), with the winner being the player with the lowest accumulated score.

The box is quite battered, with a few tears, but the cards are complete and in good condition along with the original rules booklet. Grade 2 under the Hoyles Vintage Grading System.
