Pentetote: The Game with the Odds - 1930s

$283.00

A wonderful and rare vintage game from the 1930s, sold by Harrods and branded as such. It features a roulette-style gambling wheel with a 5-race greyhound meeting.

The wheel has six equal-width coloured spaces, giving players a fair chance of winning. The numbers around the wheel represent various odds for each winning space instead of a flat five-to-one odds. The odds are: Evens, Two to one, Three to one, Four to one, Six to one, Even to one, Right to one, Nine to one.

Players who bet on the winning space can win above or below the flat odds of five to one. There is also a special space for those who prefer to receive flat odds of five to one on their stake.

Additionally, players can back any two spaces for correct odds of two to one on their total stake. The cloth also has space for wagering on any of the numbers surrounding the wheel (1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, and 9), each with odds of seven to one. There is also space for betting on whether the indicator will stop at a number below five or above five.

It took a lot of digging to find the origins of this game. Its almost seems like a combination of Poolette and Totalisator (which we have a copies of).

Box dimensions: 31 x 31 x 13cm

Very heavy and clearly well made. The box is in acceptable condition due to its rarity, though the lid has been tape-repaired. There is also a small pen mark on the roulette wheel. Includes original rules and game sheets. Grade 2 under the Hoyles Vintage Grading System.
