Speed 2nd Edition card game - 1945

£15.00

This is a second edition copy of Speed by Pepys Games, published in 1945. Speed is considered one of the most enjoyable and collectible games released by Pepys.

It's a card game for 2-5 players where the objective is to get rid of all the cards in your hand. Speed is a predecessor to the popular game UNO and a contemporary of Whot.

Rules:

  • Players are dealt a hand of cards: 6 cards for 2 or 3 players, and 5 cards for 4 or 5 players.
  • Players play cards by matching the set of the previously played card (Aeroplane, Train, Ship, Motor, or Animal) or by playing a card with the same number in the top corner (the Animal suit contains 2 numbers per card).
  • If a player cannot play, they must draw a card from the draw deck.
  • 'Lightning' cards act as wild cards, allowing the player to designate the next set to be played.
  • There is one 'Extra Turn' card that can be played in addition to a normal card, giving the opportunity to discard 2 cards in one turn.

When the first player finishes, the remaining players score penalty points equal to the sum of the numbers on the cards left in their hands.

Full set of 45 cards which are in superb condition, but original rules and box are missing. Still a charming game with beautiful hand drawn artwork. We can provide a printed copy of the rules above if you so wish. Grade 2 under the Hoyles Vintage Grading System.
