Happy Families - 1860

This is a very old example of Happy Families which was made by John Jaques & Son and was sold at The National Gallery in London around 1860.

Happy Families is a traditional British card game usually made with a specific set of picture cards, featuring illustrations of fictional families of four, most often based on occupation types. The object of the game is to collect complete families.

The illustrations on this copy were reproduced from designs by Sir John tenniel Tenniel who was the illustrator of Lewis Caroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through The Looking Glass.
