Elizabethan chess set
Designs taken from the major players in the Spanish Armada invasion scare of the 16th century, the two sides to this set are differentiated by an ebony/ivory colour or by hand painted enamels in red and blue colourways. We recommend playing these pieces on a 20" board.
- King: Lord Burghley (4" tall)
- Queen: Queen Elizabeth I
- Bishop: Matthew Parker, the Archbishop of Canterbury
- Castle: Sir Walter Raleigh
- Pawn: Ships of the English fleet, which defeated the Spanish Armada
Made in Somerset. Please note that the hand-painted version is only available on request - please get in touch for further details.
