A very old edition of Tidleywinks trade marked with "Globe Series of Games" who were made by Oppenheimer und Sulzbacher. We know that it must date somewhere between 1890 and 1920 as this was the time the makers were in business. We would put it closer to the later date though due its appealing art deco styling on the front.
Oppenheimer und Sulzbacher was established in 1883 by Emil Oppenheimer and Ignatz Sulzbacher who were experienced in the stationery trade. The business was to be that of merchants and exporters only, based in Nurnberg in the south of Germany. The company had great success with sales to Great Britain under the “Globe Series” brand.
Box dimensions: 13 x 9.5 x 4.5cm
Includes 39 colourful original bone winks (including 6 large ones for that number of players) and a wooden shaker with printed rules than are unlikely to be original as they do not bare their makers mark. The box appears to have had some wood worm damage in the past and so the slide lid is fragile, but on the plus side the print on the front and the winks are still as bright as the day this game would have been made. Grade 3 under the Hoyles Vintage Grading System.
