Guinness Chess Advertising Rooks - 1970s

£350.00 £425.00

A superb and unique pair of advertising pottery rooks (chess castles) for Guinness, glazed in high gloss. The White one reads “Guinness pure genius move” and “My goodness my Guinness”  on the black and both with “Guinness Original” in gold lettering. They are both in superb condition.

For a decade starting in August 1985, Guinness had Rutger Hauer as the “Man with a Guinness” in the “Pure Genius” campaign. While staying on the sophisticated side, for one year Guinness aimed to flatter it’s drinker’s intelligence through thought provoking quotations and statistics.
