If you love a bit of mystery, mischief, and bluffing brilliance, Perudo might be your new favourite game. Also known as Liar’s Dice, this classic South American game is all about reading your opponents, keeping a cool face - and sometimes, stretching the truth just a little.
Whether you’re playing with friends around the dinner table or on a sunny pub garden afternoon, Perudo is simple to learn and endlessly entertaining.
What’s in a Game of Perudo?
A typical Perudo set includes:
- 5 dice per player
- 1 cup per player (to hide your dice)
- (Optional: A set of counters or a way to track lives)
Don’t have the official set? You can DIY it with any regular six-sided dice and some cups or mugs. It’s a perfect game to play on the fly
Players
- 2 to 6 players (best with 4+)
- Games last around 20–30 minutes
- Great for ages 8 and up
The Goal
The aim of the game is simple: be the last player with dice left. You’ll lose one die each time you’re caught bluffing - or get out-bluffed by someone else.
It’s fast, cheeky, and all about reading the room.
How to Play
- All players roll their dice in secret under their cups.
- Peek at your own dice, but keep them hidden from others.
- The first player makes a bid - a guess at the total number of a certain face value showing across everyone’s dice (e.g. “four 3s”).
- Going clockwise, each player must either:
-
- Raise the bid - with either face value or number of dice (e.g. “five 3s” or “five 4s”)
- Call Dudo – challenging the last bid as a lie
What happens when someone calls Dudo?
Everyone lifts their cups and reveals their dice.
- If the bid was correct or under, the challenger loses a die.
- If the bid was too high, the bidder loses a die.
Then, all dice are rolled again and the next round begins.
What’s the Deal with Ones?
Ones are wild - they count as any number. So if you bid “five 5s” and there are three 5s and two 1s, the bid is good!
BUT: if someone bids “ones” specifically, they are no longer wild for that round.
Elimination
When a player runs out of dice, they’re out. Last person with dice left wins!
